PETER LANGDAHL
Project Officer, Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

Peter is managing the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) input for ‘enviroLENS’, a horizon 2020 project funded by the European Commission. A project that is aimed at demonstrating and promoting the use of Earth observation as direct evidence for environmental law enforcement, including in a court of law and in related contractual negotiations. The project combines components from the corporate and legal sectors with Earth Observation-based services to support evidence-based decision-making in the environmental domain (https://envirolens.eu/).

Based at IUCN’s Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (ECARO) in Belgrade, Serbia, Peter also contributes to multiple initiatives supporting better Ecosystem Management and especially with Nature-based solutions (NBS). Currently in the works are efforts to strengthen the regions’ commitments to the Bonn Challenge via the regional initiative ‘ECCA30’ (https://infoflr.org/bonn-challenge/regional-initiatives/ecca30).

Previously, Peter has worked with environmental management from multiple perspectives including government, private sector, and currently from the perspective of an international organisation with IUCN. Peter holds a M.Sc. in Human Security (Environment and Conflict Analysis) built on a B.Sc. in Biology, focusing on complex situations and holistic solutions for environmental management.
